| Abstract: | Fusion as a potential energy source has a number of advantages: no carbon emissions, no air pollution and unlimited fuel supply. Research is ongoing to demonstrate the feasibility of using fusion for the energy production. The plasmatron VISION I (under construction in SCK•CEN) will be an important facility for investigation of interaction between plasma and materials under reactor-relevant conditions. The plasmatron promises to be a unique in its kind installation for exposing plasma facing materials, including beryllium and irradiated samples, to tritium containing plasma. Present thesis is devoted to development of diagnostic set-up for the plasmatron. Estimations of expected plasma parameters are presented along with results of the first experiments on the plasmatron. |
