Abstract

There was substantial European and national funding for radioecology in the years following the Chernobyl accident, but this has since declined. Over the last decade, the number of radioecologists has been steadily reducing and there is the potential that significant gaps in the expertise needed to cover the many different facets of radioecology may occur in some countries.
