The goal of this study is to evaluate the dose deposited in a tissue equivalent 5mm thick phantom, by the nuclear fragments of a primary carbon ions beam interacting with a plexiglass energy degrader, for different degrader thicknesses. The Monte Carlo model is based on the facility present at the Svedberg laboratory, in Uppsala, Sweden (figure on the right). In experimental conditions, the beam is used to irradiate in-vitro cell samples, plated onto 35mm Petri dishes. The degrader is used to select a particular LET of the carbon ions beam impinging on the cells monolayer.
