Abstract

Since the start of the actinium production at the end of 1969 about 6 g of actinium have been produced and 2 S g have been separated and chemically purified. The processing methods based on precipitation and ion exchange techniques have been adapted to the work with increasing specific activity. The operational experience with the control of the radon isotopes in the hot cell installations and in the adsorption and ventila­tion units groved the possibility to work with large amounts of 226Ra 227Ac and 228Th. An important effort has been devoted to the development of several radiochemical and analytical techniques for off line process control and materials balance check.
