Abstract

This Thesis is based on the Monte Carlo study on the Partial Defect Tester (PDET), a detector investigated to detect the subtraction of fuel rods from a spent fuel assembly in a cooling pool. The PDET uses multiple tiny neutron and gamma detectors in the form of a cluster and a simple gravity-driven system to measure the neutron and photon uxes inside a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) spent fuel assembly. The measurements are performed under water, and the PDET takes advantage of the PWR fuel design which contains multiple guidetubes which can be accessed from the top.
