Abstract

For the future MYRRHA ADS a windowless liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) spallation target is foreseen. In this case, the vacuum compatibility of LBE needs to be assessed. The Small LbE EVaporation Experiment (SLEEVE) is conceived to determine the rate with which particles emanate from the LBE melt and whether or not these particles will be accumulated on the stainless steel walls of the beam tube. In this paper, the concept of the experimental apparatus is described. It is shown that a careful design in combination with Monte Carlo simulations would allow obtaining both goals. First results are reported.
